Summer Volunteer Opportunities with The Arc of Montgomery County
As spring approaches, many students are seeking summer volunteer opportunities to fulfill their Student Service Learning requirements. The Arc Montgomery County holds volunteer orientations at 11600 Nebel Street, Rockville, MD 20852. We discuss our organization’s mission, volunteer sites, forms required, and volunteer policies.
We require our Junior Volunteers work a minimum of 25 hours over the course of the summer, but they are welcome to volunteer for longer periods. We are flexible with regard to days, dates and frequency of service, but each day of volunteer service will be for a minimum of 2.5 hours and maximum of 5 hours. During the summer, students may volunteer in one of three programs, outlined below.
- Montgomery Primary Achievement Center (MPAC) –provides special education and related services to students 2-4 years old with developmental delays, autism, intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities. Located in Gaithersburg; minimum voluntee r age is 12.
- Karasik Child Care Center –provides educational and childcare services to children 2 to 8 years old, with and without intellectual and developmental disa bilities. Located in Silver Spring; minimum volunteer age is 12.
- After All –supervised summer program for pre-teens and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Located in Silver Spring; minimum volunteer age is 16;young men are especially needed to engage in sports activities with program participants.
Volunteers play an important role in our goal of providing individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families a comprehensive system of services and advocacy. Students interested in volunteering should email azytaa@arcmontmd.org to register for this or another orientation date. Orientations will be conducted approximately twice each month through mid-June. Please view our calendar at http://thearcofmontgomerycounty.com/news-events/calendar.html for more information and specific orientation dates.
We would appreciate you sharing this information with your students as soon as possible. With your continued partnership, we can fulfill our goal of creating and sustaining inclusive communities that embrace and engage individuals and families affected by intellectual and developmental disabilities. Thank you for your support!
