Student volunteers needed to serve meals at emergency shelter

The Montgomery County Coalition is looking for students to help with our meal program at our Home Builder’s Care Assessment Center (formerly known as the Men’s Emergency Shelter) located off of Gude Drive in Rockville. We are currently serving over 200 men, 3 meals a day, everyday. A great Spring Break project; SSL hours are available for this activity. Hold a collection drive for gift cards, sample sized toiletries, paper goods, or household cleaning supplies. All collection drives must be pre-arranged.
Volunteer for our annual Shelter Walk’n’Roll on May 2nd at 1:00pm in Rockville Town Center.

The George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy (The Saturday School) needs your help tutoring! They are a pre-approved service organization. Volunteer at any of the 12 centers on Saturday mornings from 8:15 to 11:45 and make a difference in the life of a child. Choose the center where you would like to volunteer and call today!

PALA meeting March 11 at 7pm

The next PALA meeting will be a general membership meeting. Blake Latino students who have been inducted into the National Honor Society will be honored at this meeting.

As the Association of Parents and Students Latinos in Action, and the whole school community Blake High School, we are proud to celebrate the success of Latino students at Blake. The recognition ceremony will be held on March 11 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Library / Media center.

Next Silent Auction Committee meeting on March 8th

A Planning Meeting for the Silent Auction will take place next Monday night, March 8th, 2010 at 7pm in the Blake HS Career Center. The Silent Auction is now a mere 2 months away on May 7th, 2010!

The Auction Committee will discuss IMPORTANT next steps in the areas of:
Publicity and Marketing, Auction Dinner, Online Auction & “Night-Of” Logistics.

Blake families should be receiving an Auction letter this week, detailing this year’s event, along with a donation form. We have already collected almost 100 donations from the business community who received letters earlier this February.

This is the PTSA’s largest fundraiser for our Blake students, staff and school. The Committee is deeply in need of Volunteers to help us support our school! Please feel free to contact us at: auction@blakeptsa.org or either:

Blake Swing Night, March 19

The annual Swing Night at Blake High School featuring our very own “Eubie Blake” Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Brian Damron. On Friday, March 19, 2010 at 7 :00PM the Blake HS cafeteria will be transformed into a Jazz Club and all are invited to attend this great event. The night will be filled with music, dancing, food and fun. This year’s selections will include the music of Dizzy Gillespie, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, and so much more. A wonderful Italian dinner, desert and beverages is included in the price of admission. Dancing is always welcome so bring all of your friends.

Pre-purchased tickets are $25 per person. Tickets at the door are $35 per person. (Only a view tickets will be available at the door, no guarantee)

Mr. Blake rescheduled, Fashion X postponed

The Fashion X Program, which was originally scheduled for Friday has been postponed to the fall.

In light of the potential for home basketball playoff games this week, the Mr. Blake Pageant has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30pm in the Blake auditorium.

Update on Comedy Night

Due to several circumstances, including the severe weather in February, the PTSA has cancelled Comedy Night 2010 on March 12th. However, we are trying to reschedule it in April. We will keep you posted through the PTSA web site and Eubiemail on any new date for the event.

Currently, Comedy Night is a committee of two parents who have been tied up with the Book Sale and other PTSA projects. We welcome parents and students who would like to help us get it going—even an hour or two will help. We especially need parents to act as judges for comedy try-outs during the school day and/or after school, and students to help us set up on the performance night. The PTSA Silent Auction & Dinner is the Blake PTSA’s largest fundraising event. The event is held in conjunction with Blake High School’s Festival of the Arts and Humanities, which this year will be May 7, 2010. Proceeds from this event are used to support our students and staff.

We are always looking to broaden our donation and sponsorship offerings with unique and useful items.
