There will be a Section 504 technical assistance conference for parents being offered this Friday, September 24th. The Office of Civil Rights is hosting the conference for Montgomery County and 5 surrounding jurisdictions. We apologize for the late notice, but OCR was working out the logistics for the format, location, date, and time of the conference, which they just shared with MCPS.

Tutoring available during lunch

ACE tutoring is offered everyday at lunch to all students in b2223. National Honor Society members are available to tutor students on the following days.

Monday: Social Studies
Tuesday: Science
Wednesday: English
Thursday; Math
Friday: Math and French.

Blake Grief Support Group – Referrals Requested

The Blake Counseling Department and Hospice Caring Inc. will be beginning our annual “Good Grief Group” this spring for students grieving a loss. The primary purpose of the group is to provide a safe place where grief and loss can be expressed, and coping tools can be learned and practiced. Note – this is not a psychotherapy group, rather, it is a peer-support group. Through listening to other group member’s stories, students discover they are not alone. Grief and loss support groups provide an opportunity for adolescents to gain mastery that will benefit them now, and for the rest of their lives.
If your son or daughter has lost a close family member or friend recently, or even years ago and might be interested in participating, please reply directly to Christina_R_Gelb@mcpsmd.org. Students will be interviewed to determine whether the group is appropriate or needed. A parent/guardian letter and permission form will be sent home with the student. This 7-week group will be co-lead by Ms. Gelb and a facilitator from Hospice Caring.

Student assistance now available at Blake

Student Assistance is a school-based substance use and violence intervention program that is part of Safe and Drug-Free Schools of Montgomery County Public Schools. Student Assistance is focused on prevention through intervention. Student Assistance does not provide information for criminal prosecution or school discipline.

Most substance use and/or violent behavior takes place off school grounds out of the jurisdiction of school officials, yet many of the effects of this are reflected in students’ performance in school. The goal of Student Assistance is to identify and help adolescents whose behavior, attendance, or grades indicate that they may have problems related to alcohol and/or other drug use or violence. Through the different steps that comprise the Student Assistance process, these-at-risk adolescents are referred for a professional assessment and directed to appropriate services.
