Students, Parents, Staff, Alumni, Family and Friends of James Hubert Blake High School,

You are cordially invited to “Blake Celebrates Carole Goodman”, on the evening of Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., in the Blake High School Auditorium. The evening’s program will feature student, staff and parents past and present in a tribute to Principal Goodman through spoken words, music, and art. The program will be followed by an informal reception open to all who attend.

Ms. Goodman is leaving Blake at the end of this month and has been appointed by the Board of Education to assume the position of Associate Superintendent of Human Resources for MCPS on July 1. As Blake’s first and only principal, Mrs. Goodman’s departure brings with it change for the Blake community. But we cannot let Mrs. Goodman go without having a fitting celebration of her years at Blake. Please join the school community past and present in celebrating Carole Goodman’s leadership, creativity and the legacy she leaves James Hubert Blake High School.

You can RSVP to this event on the Facebook page, Blake Celebrates Carole Goodman.

Due to several circumstances, including the severe weather in February, the PTSA has cancelled Comedy Night 2010 on March 12th. However, we are trying to reschedule it in April. We will keep you posted through the PTSA web site and Eubiemail on any new date for the event.

Currently, Comedy Night is a committee of two parents who have been tied up with the Book Sale and other PTSA projects. We welcome parents and students who would like to help us get it going—even an hour or two will help. We especially need parents to act as judges for comedy try-outs during the school day and/or after school, and students to help us set up on the performance night. If interested, write Orit and Beth at: vp@blakeptsa.org.

This Thursday, 7:30 pm, in the Black Box Theater, the Stage Company will host a performance by the Harvard DINS, an a cappella singing group from Harvard. Alum Justin Pereira is a member.

The program will last about 90 minutes and tickets will sell for $10 for all attending. In addition, the DINS will have their very own CD to sell.

This is a bit last minute, but we are very happy to establish something that is “alum-oriented” and hope to plan future “events” involving our graduates. We are sure this is the start of something quite wonderful, and we are so happy to host these Harvard artists.

Michael D’Anna
Director

About the DINS from their website:
The Harvard Din & Tonics are Harvard University’s signature all-male a cappella singing group, known around the world for their rich tradition of musical and performance excellence. With a repertoire centered on the American jazz standards of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, these 13 Harvard gentlemen- who perform in white tie, tails, and lime green socks- have an enviable reputation for their impeccable musicality, snappy choreography, and hilarious antics.

Din Facts
The Din & Tonics were featured in the 2003 film, Mona Lisa Smile, starring Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

It’s All A Dream
Did you know that the Dins’ arrangement of Horace Silver’s Nica’s Dream features both original composition and original verse, written by and for the Dins?
