			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Prom and after Prom are fast approaching.  Here is some important information on these events. </p>
<p>Prom is on Friday, May 14 from 8:00pm-12:00am at the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center at the University of Maryland.<br />
The After Prom is at Dave &#038; Buster&#8217;s in White Flint Mall immediately following the Prom from 12:30am to 5:00am. Prom Tickets will be available for purchase on Monday, April 26-Friday, May 7.  The cost will be $55.00 per ticket. Tickets will NOT be sold the week of Prom.  After-Prom tickets will be included with the purchase of a Prom ticket.  For questions regarding Prom tickets contact Kelly McLaughlin, Junior Class Sponsor, Kelly_A_McLaughlin@mcpsmd.org.</p>

&#8220;Into the Night&#8221;</p>
<p>Hello Blake families,</p>
<p>With about 35 days to go until the 2010 After-Prom, we have just passed the 66% point of our Fundraising goal for Parent Donations.  To the 81 families that have donated to the After-Prom, THANK YOU!!!  To the other 900+ families at Blake, WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Regardless of the grade your child is in, we count on your support.  Our initial deadline is/was Friday, April 9.</p>
<p>Any contribution, large or small, is appreciated!  Your donation will help insure a safe, alcohol and drug free evening for our Juniors, Seniors and their Prom dates!<span id="more-1371"></span></p>

Tax deductible checks can be made payable to the Blake HS PTA After Prom. [You may also donate online. <p>We will make a decision shortly whether or not to cut activities and/or charge all Prom goers a fee to go to the After Prom.  It has traditionally been free to all Prom goers and their guests and we would like to keep it that way!</p>
<p>The 2010 After Prom committee has been planning and fundraising throughout the school year with after-school pizza sales, Spirit Buttons and Dine-Out events, but our biggest fundraising source is direct contributions from you, our Blake Families.</p>
<p>In addition, on your donation form there is a place for you to volunteer to help the night of the After Prom.  We need approximately 75 parents to help during the After Prom (May 14/15).  This is a fun, busy event and we have many opportunities to participate so please sign up now to help out.  If you have any questions about being a volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Cathy Clark at jclark0007@aol. com.</p>
<p>Last, we are offering bus transportation from the Prom to the After Prom should there be enough interest. Reservations must be made by April 19 and we must have a full bus to be able to offer this service.  See the bottom of your form for details and cost.</p>

<p>Hello Blake families,</p>
<p>By now you have received your 2010 After Prom donation letter.  To date we have received donations from 63 families totaling about 48% of our $10,000 goal.</p>
<p>First, we want to thank those of you that have sent in your donations and want to remind those of you that have not to pull out the yellow/blue paper from the inbox on your desk and send your donation in for the best Blake event ever!  Should you have misplaced your letter we have uploaded the <a href="http://www.blakeptsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/After-Prom-Parent-letter2010.pdf">After Prom letter</a> on this web site for you to print out and send in. You may also pay online via PayPal—for more information, see our <a href="http://www.blakeptsa.org/ptsa-events-and-programs/after-prom/">After Prom</a> page.</p>
<p>For those of you who are Freshman and Sophomore parents, you may be wondering why you should help.  The After Prom is an event that your children will attend as upperclassmen and we depend on all Blake families to help make this <span id="more-1322"></span>annual event a success.  Please help us continue our strong Bengal tradition of &#8220;paying it forward!&#8221;</p>

• Treasurer&#8217;s update: We are receiving responses to our Parent Letters but we still need a lot more donations.<br />
• Current Fundraisers:<br />
-Pizza sales have been going well.  We have ~6 more left.  If anyone wants to volunteer on Tuesdays at 2:00 please let Maura know.<br />
-Fundraising letters were mailed.  We have received donations from approx. 40 families and some businesses have sent donations and prizes.<br />
-Dine-outs:  Mama Lucia has been very successful.  There is a dine-out planned at the Burtonsville Cheeburger on April 19.<br />
• Bus Info.: We are offering one-way bus transportation  from the Prom to the AP.  Under the conditions <span id="more-1251"></span>that we have to have enough takers to fill(pay) for the bus.  So far no takers.<br />
• MCPPG: Heidi updated us on the last meeting.  They discussed check in/out.  Also there was discussion at the MCPPG meeting about the impact of &#8220;After Prom Only&#8221; students and if that defeats the idea of the MCPPG which is to make sure that students who go to Prom go to a safe, controlled venue after the prom.  Everything is in the discussion stage now.  There will be a MCPPG meeting in the future about how to identify students impaired by alcohol or drugs—everyone is welcome.<br />
• Volunteers: Cathy Clark (jclark0007ATaolDOTcom) has started to collect names of parents interested in volunteering the night of After Prom.  If you are interested in volunteering and haven&#8217;t yet let Cathy know by sending in your donation letter with your volunteer information please email her.<br />
• T-Shirt committee: Theresa can now go forward with the T-shirt contest since we choose the After Prom Theme.  She has already contacted Mr. Overman and has enlisted the National Honor Society to be in charge of the student voting.  Currently we have one $500 T-shirt sponsor and are looking for more.<br />
• Decorations: Mary Flynn already has some volunteers to help her.  She will need a team of helpers that will work a couple days before the event to make things for the front entrance of Dave and Busters.<br />
• Activities: Maura and Diane have signed a contract with the company we used last year for the same activities we had last year.  We will have the photo keychains and the casino.  We are still in need of a Casino Manager if anyone is interested!  Marie Choppin has already ordered the tattoos, which were a big hit last year.<br />
• Prizes: Jack and Lisa will start purchasing prizes soon.  We will need volunteers on the night of After Prom to organize prizes and distribute them.<br />
• Senior Parent Meeting: Will be on Thursday, March 25.  We had several volunteers to sell raffle tickets (for a tuxedo, flowers, and manicures from Luxuria) and to collect volunteer forms and donation checks after the meeting.  We could use additional non-senior parent volunteers.  We are still working on getting the Tuxedo donation from Sears and the manicure donation from Luxuria—we did have a parent who might be able to help get the manicures.</p>
<p>The next AP meeting is April 12 at 7pm in the Career Center.  Please mark your calendar now.  Things are really starting to move ahead.  Thanks so much for your continued support. <p>PTA volunteers have been selling pizza, buttons and sponsoring several Dine-Outs to raise funds for the After Prom coming up in May.</p>
<p>At our next meeting we will discuss the upcoming  business and parent letters which we will be sending out in Feb.  (our main fundraisers), we will discuss what activities we would like to have at the After Prom-Casino tables, key chains, tattoos&#8230;&#8230;. and we have basketball concessions coming up (we have signed up for 4 basketball and one wrestling match concessions).</p>
<p>We are looking forward to hearing your ideas to make this a great After Prom for our students. Please come and help us plan this wonderful event.  It takes a village to put on this big an event.  We would love to have Freshman and Sophomore parents get involved-your students will be attending the After Prom before you know it!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The first After Prom committee meeting was held on Oct. 5th. Watch this space for announcements about future After Prom committee meetings and events.</p>
<p>The committee is in charge of the After Prom, which will be held at Dave and Busters on May 15th. Committee member positions include Decorations, Fundraising, After Prom Activities, Prizes, T-shirts and others. In addition, the committee raises money to support the After Prom through such events as dine-outs at local restaurants and after-school pizza sales on Tuesdays.</p>
