NAACP Parent Council Meeting Tuesday January 16 at 6:00 p.m. Political Power/Access, Know your Political Capital Power

Please come out next Tuesday, January 16 in the Media Center, and help brainstorm an agenda to be presented at the next NAACPPC County Meeting on Jan 22. I have included the email from the Executive Team  below.  May I suggest that you review the video of the NAACP Parents’ Council Meeting with Superintendent Jack Smith and begin to formulate your questions/concerns. We can then work together to summarize a collective agenda. In addition, please note the December 5th MC School Board Meeting video which may be located on the MPCS website.  This will give you  incredible insight to the workings of the board and the flow of how the meetings are run.
As  parents we all have the opportunity to visit our schools, volunteer, meet with school administrators and  leadership. Understanding the process and advocating for your child/school and school community is available to each and one of us.
These are critical times and voices must be heard and acted upon.  I hope to see many of you there next Tuesday evening. I have invited Dr. Bell, MCPS Director of Diversity Initiatives for our February meeting and Shebra Evans, 4th District, VP MC Board of Education, will carry on this discussion and more at our March meeting.   Please refer to our website for calendar updates.
Warmest regards,
Sheila Chandler

Opportunities for Reps.
In our response to the new More Learning, Less Testing Act of 2017, MCPS is forming a multi-stakeholder group to review the district’s student assessment plan for the 2018-2019 school year.  It is expected the group will meet three times during the second semester of 2018 (two-hour meetings).  Participants will provide feedback and make recommendations in the following areas:
the time required to administer each assessment;
the duplicativeness of assessments;
the purpose of assessments;
the value of feedback provided to educators and parents; and
the timeliness of results.
Meetings times are anticipated between 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Meeting dates will be shared in January. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at
